Qinhuangdao has implemented serious standards for improving its air quality by the Olympic Games. In order to ensure excellent air in August, various industrial and transportation sectors of the city will be held to the highest environmental standards. Qinhuangdao had launched its measures to guarantee good air quality during the Olympics. 20 key treatment projects were arranged to control air pollution before and during the Olympics. In 2008, five provinces and municipalities launched a special air quality guarantee coordination group, covering Shanxi, Hebei (where Qinhuangdao is), Beijing, Tianjin, and Inner Mongolia. Consecutively, the group urged local governments to make specific air pollution control plans to guarantee good air quality in Beijing, Tianjin and Qingdao. Currently the detailed action tasks of many cities are still under discussion. According to Xinhua, the city has focused on already determined sources of pollution to figure out how best to control its environmental impact, arranging 20 projects designed to minimize bad air. During the Olympic Games, mechanisms have been developed to monitor air quality with forecasting and early warning systems in place.
