Year and Location: March - April 2007, Thailand.Client: Nuffic & Thai National Housing Authority. At the end of 2006, the National Housing Authority (NHA) was commissioned by the Thai government to take the initiative for the development of a National Housing Strategy. As part of this ‘National Housing Strategy’ programme, Urban Solutions was asked to develop and conduct a training programme with the objective to set out the framework for the first Thai national long-term and over-all housing policy as well as a roadmap to develop and implement such a housing policy. This four-week training programme brought together representatives from all major public and private institutions that are active in the Thai housing market. Urban Solutions used a step-by step approach to assist the participants in the formulation of the 'Road Map', including specific financial, institutional and regulatory arrangements. The 'Road Map' was presented to key decision makers at a high profile closing seminar and covered issues such as: * Facilitate the identification and prioritisation of current problems; * Set up a structure for the roadmap and housing strategy; * Provide theoretical background and international references on government intervention in the housing sector ; * Facilitate multi-stakeholder cooperation for the formulation of housing policy framework alternatives as well as a strategy towards housing policy development and implementation .
